Certificate IV 

10433NAT Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology

The Certificate IV is a foundational course in biblical studies and Theology. It is particularly suitable for those involved in Ministry in the local church in areas such as Youth Leadership, Sunday School Teaching or other church Ministry areas.

The course is equivalent to one-year full-time study.

Course Structure
Nine units of competency are delivered through six bible, theology and ministry subjects together with three elective subjects.

Entrance Requirements
As a foundation course of study there are no pre-requisites required to enrol in this course.

Student must have a minimum of Year 11 schooling.

For International Students you must complete the necessary entry requirements to study in Australia and have a score of no less than 5.5 in IELTS in any band.

Articulation to Other Emmaus Awards
Students are eligible to articulate to the Diploma of Christian Ministry and Theology on completion. Alternatively you may wish to enrol in one of our Bachelor degrees in Ministry, Theology or Counselling and receive 4 subjects advanced standing.

 

Christian Ministry and Theology

Diploma

10434NAT Diploma of Christian Ministry and Theology

The Diploma of Christian Ministry and Theology is designed to meet the current and future development needs of mature Christians who either desire further training as they engage in a range of functions and activities within the local church setting or for personal development and understanding. This qualification will provide the learner with the skills and knowledge required to work in a number of church related activities through competency-based assessment.

Course Structure
To achieve the Diploma, students are required to complete ten units of competency; delivered through six bible, theology and ministry subjects and four electives. The normal duration is one-year.

Entrance Requirements
There are no pre-requisites required to enrol in this course. However, students should have completed at least Year 11 level of secondary schooling. It is also expected students will be self-directed and motivated to complete the course.

For International Students you must complete the necessary entry requirements to study in Australia and have a score of no less than 5.5 in IELTS in any band.

Articulation to Other Awards
Students are eligible to articulate into one of our Bachelor degrees in Ministry, Theology or Counselling and receive 6 subjects advanced standing.

Associate Degree of Ministry

The Associate degree is a two year full time or part time equivalent nested award within the Bachelor of Ministry and Bachelor of Theology degrees. This degree contributes to the provision of theologically informed ministers and Christian workers with appropriate basic skills for ministry in local churches and other Christian ministries, social and aid organisations and mission groups.

On successful completion of the course, students will have developed knowledge, understanding and skills which are relevant for personal Christian living and for a variety of Christian ministry vocations, such as supportive roles in local churches and missionary organisations, Christian aid and social services, children's ministry, youth work, pastoral care and similar vocations.

For some, this course alone may not provide all the vocational preparation that is required and may need to be supplemented with practical training in ministry, specialised denominational training, front-line experience and/or higher-level studies such as a bachelor's degree, perhaps followed by postgraduate study.

Course Structure

Sixteen subjects are required to complete the equivalent of 96 credit points. Subjects may be taken from either the Bachelor of Ministry or the Bachelor of Theology courses.

Entrance Requirements

Satisfactory completion of Year 12 in the Australian school system, with an ATAR of 65, or

Mature admission for those who have reached the age of 21,
or
Special Entry admission through interview process, or Satisfactory completion of the Diploma of Christian Ministry and Theology.

Articulation to Other Awards

Students are eligible to articulate to the Bachelor of Ministry or the Bachelor of Theology awards.

Bachelor of Ministry

This course prepares men and women for vocations in Christian ministry in various denominational and other settings. It includes systematic study, wide reading and practical ministry education.

The course provides a sound theological foundation, teaches students to explore issues and think critically, and helps them to develop biblical attitudes to ministry. All students learn to use sound principles of biblical interpretation and to apply biblical principles to specific areas of ministry (e.g. pastoral care, preaching, teaching and leadership), and gain practical experience through a ministry practicum.

On successful completion of the course, students will have developed knowledge, understanding and skills which are relevant for personal Christian living and a variety of Christian ministry vocations, such as pastoral ministry, supporting roles in congregational leadership, missionary services, Christian aid and social services, children's ministry, youth work, pastoral care, pastoral counselling and similar vocations.

Course Structure

To achieve the Bachelor of Ministry, students are required to complete 24 subjects (144 credit points). The normal duration is of this degree is three years full time or up to 9 years part time.

Entrance Requirements

Satisfactory completion of Year 12 in the Australian school system, with an ATAR of 65, or
Mature admission for those who have reached the age of 21,
or
Special Entry admission through interview process, or Satisfactory completion of the Diploma of Christian Ministry and Theology

Articulation to Other Emmaus Awards

Students are eligible to articulate into the Master of Arts program or the Master of Theology.

Graduate Certificate In Arts

The following qualifications are offered through The Sydney College of Divinity

The Graduate Certificate in Arts course is designed for those who hold a tertiary qualification in a non-theological discipline, who wish to pursue a graduate qualification and are seeking skills in biblical and theological studies to enhance their professional work. Graduates will be able to apply a body of theological knowledge in a range of contexts relating to ministry and/or further learning.

Course Structure

36 credit points (4 course subjects) at AQF 8 or AQF 9 level (8500 or 9600 series)

Entrance Requirements

Entry is available to:

1. Applicants holding an AQF level 7 award in Theology (BTh or BMin) or

2. Applicants holding an AQF level 7 award in any discipline(BA etc).

Professional Entry into Graduate Diploma of Arts in by way of Enrolment into the Graduate Certificate in Arts

This entry requires the applicant to: 

•  possess a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in a senior leadership role, consistent with the Typical Progression Pathways outlined in the Student Handbook (hyperlink to Student handbook attached) or Prospectus

• possess a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in a range of leadership roles from associate leader to senior team leader or 

• possess a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience in an associate leader role and be over the age of 30.

Articulation to Other Awards

Students are eligible to articulate to the Graduate Diploma of Arts, on completion of which students are required to surrender their GradCertArts. Upon completion of the GradCertArts, candidates are eligible to enrol in the Master of Arts.

 

Graduate Diploma In Arts

The Graduate Diploma is designed to enable students who already have a tertiary qualification in a non-theological discipline field to study at postgraduate level and gain a theological and practical foundation for Christian service.

Course Structure

72 credit points (8 course subjects) at AQF 8 or AQF 9 level (8500 or 9600 series)

  • The Graduate Diploma in Arts may be taken with or without specialization. A specialization comprises four subjects (36 credit points) in a sub-discipline including at least one course unit (9 credit points) at 9600 level

Entrance Requirements

Entry is available to:

1. Applicants holding an AQF level 8 award in Theology (Graduate Certificate), or

2. Applicants holding an AQF level 7 award in Theology (BTh or BMin).

Professional Entry into Graduate Diploma of Arts in by way of Enrolment into the Graduate Certificate in Arts.

Articulation to Other SCD Awards

Students are eligible to articulate to the Master of Arts offered by the Sydney College of Divinity, on completion of which students are required to surrender their GradDipArts.

 

Master of Arts

The Master of Arts course is designed for those who hold a tertiary qualification in a non-theological discipline who wish to pursue a graduate qualification in Biblical and Theological study. The course is designed to enhance those in Ministry or for private study in order to gain a deeper understanding of the Scriptures and Theology.

Course Structure

Category 1: 72 credit points (8 course subjects) at AQF 8 or AQF 9 level {8500 or 9600 series)

Category 2: 108 credit points {12 course subjects) at AQF 8 or AQF 9 level {8500 or 9600 series)

  • Unit content may not be similar to that of subjects undertaken previously, e.g., in a Bachelor of Ministry or Bachelor of Theology
  • The Master of Arts may be taken with or without specialization. A specialisation comprises six subjects (54 credit points) in a sub-discipline including at least two course subjects (18 credit points) at 9600 level.
  • Specialisations are available in Systematic Theology, Biblical Studies, Pastoral Counselling and Christian Leadership.

Entrance Requirements

This entry requires the applicant to:

1. Applicants holding an AQF level 8 award in Theology (Graduate Certificate in Arts) or

2. Applicants holding an AQF level 7 award in Theology (BTh or BMin).

Articulation to Other SCD Awards

Students are eligible to articulate to the Master of Divinity. They may also articulate to the Master of Philosophy offered by the Sydney College of Divinity provided they meet the entry requirements (including undertaking a specified research component within the Master of Arts).
